Spanish paper merchant Torraspapel has been awarded Environmental Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) certification for its coated paper and pulp mills. The certification is due to be extended to its speciality paper and self-adhesives factories before the end of this year.
EMAS was introduced by the European Union in 1995 and is similar to the ISO 14001, though employees themselves are encouraged to take an active role in the process, and the company must publish an annual environmental report made available to the general public.
Torraspapel has also received PEFC accreditation for its sales network, including all of its merchants and subsidiaries.
