PC sales register strong recovery - Europe

The PC market in the EMEA region -Europe, the Middle East and Africa – has grown 21.1 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter, according to figures from IDC, with portable devices driving sales.

The highest growth came from Central Eastern Europe, at 53.7 per cent, while Western Europe saw 15.1 per cent growth, and the Middle East and Africa 16.4 per cent.

"While European economies remained challenged by a potential new wave of crisis across the eurozone, as well as pressure to curb public spending to reduce deficits, the PC market continued to deliver a robust performance in Western Europe," said Eszter Morvay, research manager, IDC's EMEA Personal Computing.

"Market dynamics were driven by the gradual rebound in the business space as companies re-engage on hardware renewals, and by continued strength in the consumer market fuelled by mainstream notebook renewals."
