Officemax announces growth plan - USA

OfficeMax says it is now entering ‘growth mode’ and has announced a plan for increasing its sales to achieve mid-single rate growth.

On Thursday, OfficeMax said it will expand printing, shipping and document shredding services at its stores, and will now offer technology-related services, such as helping customers configure their new computers. The retailer is also taking its branded and private label products beyond its traditional superstores after research showed that 90 percent of office supplies are not sold in office supply stores.

OfficeMax's products will soon be available at drugstores, grocers like Safeway, mass merchants and independent retailers. The company said it has won a contract to sell office products in Food Lion stores, owned by Belgian retailer Delhaize Group. The said it will now target its marketing campaigns at women, as its research shows 70 percent of office supply shopping decisions were made by women.
