Pen manufacturer Mont Blanc is involved in a court case in India over its use of images of Mahatma Gandhi for a new limited edition.
The luxury pen maker has caused controversy with the launch of its its Limited Edition 241 and 3,000 categories. The pens have 18 karat gold nibs and carry the engravings of Gandhi.
The catalogue says the manufacturer will produce 241 pens under its Limited Edition 241 category (241 symbolising the miles Gandhi travelled during the 1930 Dandi march). Another 3,000 fountain and roller ball pens will be produced under its Limited Edition 3,000.
Minister of state for consumer affairs KV Thomas said the depiction of Gandhi violated the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act of 1950.
