In Hoogezand-Sappemeer town hall, a press conference will take place to announce that Jalema will definitely continue its activities in Hoogezand.
In consultation with the official receiver for Atlanta, now bankrupt, and the former owner Smead, Jalema succeeded in taking over all Atlanta's former assets in Hoogezand, thus preserving jobs for about twenty members of staff. Through his real estate company, Jalema's former managing director Joan Westendorff has bought Atlanta's former buildings and leased them to Jalema.
Jalema will enter into a long-term lease agreement for the majority of the former Atlanta buildings (two production halls, two high-rise warehouses, a forwarding department and office space). This means that Jalema will continue the production of suspension files and forms in Hoogezand and will also begin a new activity. By doing so, Jalema will use 11,500 m² of the 16,000 m² of built-up area available.
Jalema will also take over all the supplies, capital equipment, shelves and stock which are still present. On Thursday 26 January, Westendorff will sign the purchase agreement. He is currently discussing the lease of the remaining spaces with other potentially interested parties. The takeover will officially take effect on 1 February.
