Hewlett-Packard and Alcatel-Lucent have announced that they intend to form a 10-year global alliance to to transform communication networks into converged infrastructures.

They will also launch solutions for mid- and large-sized enterprises and public sector organizations that will integrate Alcatel-Lucent products such as IT telephony security and contact centers with HP's IT offerings. The pair said the program could generate multi-billion euros in net revenues over a 10-year period.

"We expect customers will be able to create new business opportunities and greater efficiencies from this alliance," said Mark Hurd, HP chairman and chief executive officer. HP will also manage a large part of Alcatel-Lucent's IT.
