The German market for consumer electronics saw a positive start to the year, with an increase of 6.6% in the first quarter compared to 2010, according to GfK. The three segments within CEMIX developed quite differently: consumer electronics products (- 1.7 percent), privately used telecommunication products (+ 40.1 percent) and privately used IT products (+ 4.5 percent).
At 1.6 billion €, TV sets reached a stable turnover level in the first quarter of 2011. In units, an increase of 4.6 percent to 2.5 million units could be achieved. LCD TV sets, on the other hand, accounted for an increase of 6.4% in sales units. Plasma TV sets recorded a minus of 7.4%.
In particular home audio devices, accessories (e.g. headphones) and digital cameras were all growth drivers in the first quarter of 2011. Moreover, the product categories of privately used IT and telecommunication devices also recorded positive value-based growth rates.
