Europe’s largest retailer Carrefour reported a 6.3 percent increase in second-quarter sales after strong growth in France. Revenue was up from €23.4 billion to to €24.9 billion euros a year earlier, according to a statement.
French sales increased for a second straight quarter, after over a year of decline. Carrefour is investing in advertising and discounts in order to increase market share. The retailer is also looking to Brazil, China and Spain for acquisitions. Chief Executive Officer Lars Olofsson said back in May that Carrefour will open pilot stores in France in Autumn to to boost sales per square metre.
