Despite slowing sales at home, Carrefour’s Asian business continued to do well last year and the company has high hopes for further growth.
Carrefour continues to make gains in Asia, with reports the company's China sales figures in 2009 rose by 16 per cent year on year.
Carrefour opened 22 new stores in China throughout 2009, bringing its total number of outlets in the country to 157, Chinese web portal 163.com reported.
Carrefour China president Eric Legros said the group wanted to have 30 Shanghai stores in the near future, favouring the more rural areas of the city.
Meanwhile, February saw the opening of three new Carrefour hypermarkets in Malaysia, bringing the total number of hypermarkets in that country to 22.
