Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, has filed a lawsuit against a list of major tech companies and retailers including OfficeMax, Office Depot and Staples.
The lawsuit claims that that they infringed on patents obtained by Interval Research, a venture Allen and David Liddle from Xerox started in 1992.
Interval's research generated about 300 patents before its closure in 2000. Named as defendents are Apple, Google, Facebook, eBay, AOL, Netflix, Yahoo, Google's YouTube, OfficeMax, Office Depot and Staples.
A Google spokesperson said that the lawsuit was part of an "unfortunate trend of people trying to compete in the courtroom instead of the marketplace."
