Company history :AMBAR's first activity was the book-binding business. Founded in 1939 by Américo Barbosa, it gets its name from the first two syllables of the founder's name: Am - Bar.
In the early 1970's, the company was in full swing, with over 1000 workers, modern facilities and a computerized structure.
In 1976, AMBAR suffered a setback : a violent fire destroyed its facilities and forced the company to carry out a major reconstruction effort. Re-born from the ashes, the company grew and won foreign markets. AMBAR Spain was created in 1986, and the countries to which the company exports grew steadily.
In 1996, following the death of Américo Barbosa, his daughter Isabel Barbosa became president of AMBAR.
AMBAR then began a transition period where the key word is renovation. The year 2000 was a significant year for change. Under the auspices of Isabel Barbosa, AMBAR became more up-to-date, as it hired younger and more qualified employees, while it sought to once again bring itself closer to the consumer.
In 2004, the company changed its designation to AMBAR - Ideias no Papel, SA (Ambar - Ideas on Paper). This change is just the most visible part of a profound and continuous reorganization and innovation process in all sectors, all of which bring AMBAR to the forefront of its sector.
Core values & philosophy :AMBAR - Ideias no Papel wishes to remain what it has been for decades: Portugal's most recognized and respected stationery company. However, it also wishes to surprise with its innovation and further expand its presence in the foreign market.
Thus, the strategy goes by way of major investments in Research & Development, so as to emphasize innovative esthetics, with an avant-garde design, while retaining its trade-mark quality.
The AMBAR brand is one of the company's major assets, which is why investments in Marketing and Communication are also vital in its current and future strategy. Favoring the AMBAR brand, which has always been a symbol of quality, is one of the company's main assets.
AMBAR wishes to strengthen its export market (now comprising some 30 countries) and make it grow. The company is already heading in that direction and goes by way of adapting its products to foreign consumers with an attractive design and high quality.
As a result of its values and principles, AMBAR is a company with strong social concerns. We maintain good practices of corporate social responsibility and value the health, safety and quality of life of all our employees. We also support the integration of handicapped workers. On the other hand, the company sponsors charity organisations in a continuous effort to help fight poverty and social exclusion.
